How to Switch from Rate Sets by Timekeeper to Rate Sets by Level

  • Updated

"The firm has been using rates set up by Timekeeper.  I want to start using levels, i.e., Shareholders/Partners; Associates; Paralegals, etc. How do I make this switch?"

Rate sets are an “either/or” type of situation.  Either they are set up by Timekeeper or by Level. They cannot (or should not) be set up using both. The Timekeeper Rate will trump the Level.

In order to start using Levels, set up a new Rate Code (ex. Existing Code “S” for Standard – New Code “SL” for Standard Level) and choose “Add Rate by Staff Level.” Add the Rate and Effective Date for the different Levels. You will need to change the Matters to the new Rate Code Set. This can be done by changing the Rate for the Client and having the system adjust all Matters or it can be done individually.

Keep in mind this will not adjust any existing WIP for the Clients/Matters.
