Holding Rate or Time Constant During Write Down

  • Updated

Whether you choose to hold time constant or the rate constant depends on the Invoice Style you are using on the Matter and whether or not you compensate Timekeepers based on Billed Hours. If you are NOT using a Discount Invoice style and you do not want to show the Client a Billing Rate different than what you agreed upon in your Engagement Letter, you will want to keep the Rate constant.  If you are using a Discount Invoice Style and you do not calculate compensation on Billed Hours, your best option is to choose Automatic Allocation.  If you compensate Timekeepers based on Billed Hours and you do not want Write Downs reflected in their time, choose to hold Time constant.

Remember that writing down the time (hours) DOES NOT impact the original value of the time worked.  If the Timekeepers worked and entered 2.0 hours, it does not matter at what value the time is billed (0.0, 1.5, 3.0) the Timekeepers will still get credit for 2.0 hours of work. Writing down time has no impact on the original value of the Fee transaction.
