A Matter Set Up for Task Billing is not Requiring Task Codes

  • Updated

If you run into a situation where a Matter is set up for Task Billing and a Task Set assigned but Users are either not being required to enter a Task Code when saving fee transactions on the Matter or are not provided with a list of Task Codes from which to select, take the following steps.

    1.    Go into File Maintenance Manager, locate the Client and then locate and highlight the appropriate Matter record (do not open the Matter record).

    2.    While the Matter record is highlighted, right click and choose Edit Selected.  The following window will appear:

    3.    Scroll down to the Change Task Code Set option, choose the “Remove From Task Billing” option and click the OK Button.  Answer YES to the two confirmation questions.

    4.    Once returned to the list of Matters, make sure the same Matter is highlighted.  Right click on the Matter and choose Edit Selected to display the above window.

    5.    Scroll down to the Change Task Code Set option, choose the correct Task Code Set and click the OK Button.

Close File Maintenance and go into Fee Entry to enter a transaction on the Client-Matter.  If either you or the User(s) still are not required to enter a Task Code when entering time on the Client-Matter, close Orion Desktop and take the following steps.

    1.    Open up the Orion Administration program.

    2.    Access the System Setup, System Information option from the Side Bar.

    3.    Over to the right you will see a System Settings icon.  Double click on this icon to open up System Settings.

    4.    Access the Other Tab and click the FORCE CACHE TO EXPIRE Button.

    5.    Click OK and then close the Orion Administration program.  Re-open Orion Desktop and you should now be required to enter a Task Code when entering a fee transaction on the Client-Matter.

NOTE:  Users must exit Orion completely and re-enter in order for the FORCE CACHE TO EXPIRE operation to fix their problem. When the User re-enters/they re-enter Orion, it will take a little longer than normal for it to come up as the FORCE CACHE TO EXPIRE operation forces a rebuild of the User's local files the next time the User(s) enter(s) Orion.
