Critical Dates - Date Rules

The Date Rules section allows you to define the Holiday calendar and determine what should happen when an Event falls on a weekend or a holiday. Multiple calendars can be created to take into account different state and local holidays. Once created, the Date Rules are then assigned to Protocols.

To view an existing or to create a new Date Rule, click the Date Rules Category and the Display Panel appears.



Either double click an existing set or click on New to create a new holiday list. 


To add a new Date Rule:

1.  In the Name field, enter a name for the Date Rule.

2.  Choose the Calendar Year you want to display. To mark a certain date as a holiday, click that date. Notice that the date displayed under the Holiday section changes to the date you highlighted.


3.  In the Description field, enter a description for this holiday (for example, New Year's Day), and then click Add/Update Holiday. The date defined as a Holiday displays in yellow highlighting.


4.  To remove a holiday you have already defined, highlight the appropriate date and click Remove Holiday.

5.  To copy the holidays from another year, click Copy Holidays then select the calendar from which to copy.

Note that the Copy Holidays function works only for the year currently displayed on the calendar. If you want to copy holidays for subsequent years, you must display each year and click Copy Holidays while each year is displayed.

 


Once you have defined your holidays, you can set up rules to control the scheduling of an Event if it falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday. For each of these instances, you have the option to:

  • Do Nothing
  • Use Previous Available Weekday
  • Use Next Available Weekday


Note: When you make changes to holidays and event rules the changes apply only to the new critical events that you set up in the program. The system does not reschedule or recalculate existing critical events based on the changes. For this reason, you should set up holidays for several years in advance.
